چکیده

A primary difficulty in preventing malicious activity in distributed networks is that nodes do not have fixed classifications. A node’s behavior can fluctuate between generating wanted and unwanted interactions temporally or vary depending on the action involved. To help alleviate this reputation systems have been proposed. However, a formal model which encompasses the prior systems and allows direct comparison has not been forthcoming. We introduce a formal model which encapsulates many prior systems and allows one to determine many important properties of the systems. For example, we are able to derive the necessary and sufficient conditions for a reputation system to bound the successful unwanted interactions a node can generate in its lifetime. We then show that by bounding the unwanted interactions yield a system which maintains an O(1) expected unwanted interactions received per node. To our knowledge these techniques have not been previously shown. We, also, determine the probability of success for a generic routing algorithm. With these tools, we compare the effectiveness of some representative deterministic and probabilistic reputation systems. We then show how to modify these prior systems to improve their effectiveness, and, when possible, how they can be changed to bound the successful unwanted interactions. Our evaluations of the prior trust and routing schemes match our analysis. Our work has many applications, e.g. preventing spams in a social or distributed networks, or in designing a system which is secure against Denial of Service (DoS) attacks.

A collusion mitigation scheme for reputation systems

Reputation management systems are in wide-spread use to regulate collaborations in cooperative systems. Collusion is one of the most destructive malicious behaviors in which colluders seek to affect a reputation management system in an unfair manner. Many reputation systems are vulnerable to collusion, and some model-specific mitigation methods are proposed to combat collusion. Detection of col...

A New Load-Flow Method in Distribution Networks based on an Approximation Voltage-Dependent Load model in Extensive Presence of Distributed Generation Sources

Power-flow (PF) solution is a basic and powerful tool in power system analysis. Distribution networks (DNs), compared to transmission systems, have many fundamental distinctions that cause the conventional PF to be ineffective on these networks. This paper presents a new fast and efficient PF method which provides all different models of Distributed Generations (DGs) and their operational modes...

DisTriB: Distributed Trust Management Model Based on Gossip Learning and Bayesian Networks in Collaborative Computing Systems

The interactions among peers in Peer-to-Peer systems as a distributed collaborative system are based on asynchronous and unreliable communications. Trust is an essential and facilitating component in these interactions specially in such uncertain environments. Various attacks are possible due to large-scale nature and openness of these systems that affects the trust. Peers has not enough inform...

GGRA: a grouped gossip-based reputation aggregation algorithm

An important issue in P2P networks is the existence of malicious nodes that decreases the performance of such networks. Reputation system in which nodes are ranked based on their behavior, is one of the proposed solutions to detect and isolate malicious (low ranked) nodes. Gossip Trust is an interesting previously proposed algorithm for reputation aggregation in P2P networks based on t...

Green Energy Generation in Buildings: Grid-Tied Distributed Generation Systems (DGS) With Energy Storage Applications to Sustain the Smart Grid Transformation

The challenge of electricity distribution’s upgrade to incorporate new technologies is big, and electric utilities are mandated to work diligently on this agenda, thus making investments to ensure that current networks maintain their electricity supply commitments secure and reliable in face of disruptions and adverse environmental conditions from a variety of sources. The paper presents a new ...
